f@#king freeway debris! 200 1989

Went over a garbage-sized freaking plastic bag on the freeway, and I knew something was not right when I didn't see the bag in my rearview mirror. So I'm thinking oh crap. I exited the freeway to check under my car, and the damn bag got wrapped around the drive shaft at the rear differential connection (the thing that spins). Grrrrrr! I took off my work shirt and got under the car. Man, it was a biatch trying to untangle the plastic bag. Fortunately, I was near my Volvo mechanic and drove about 3-4 miles to it. They looked at it and saw that there was no fluid leak. The tech removed the remaining plastic. The difficult part was the plastic that had melted and hardened to form a tight ring around the shaft/differential connection.

Anyhow, I was wondering if having plastic wrapped around the spinning drive shaft will have any bad effects. The car drove fine when it happened and still drives fine after the plastic was removed. Has anyone had this happened to them? Man, I NEVER knew how difficult it was to remove plastic from the shaft. Good thing I took it to my shop and had the car hoisted up to do the job. Many thanks to The Volvo Clinic!
