tailgate wiper motor quandary??? this is weird! 200 1986

OK,

so I'm finally trying to complete my tailgate replacement by installing and wiring up the tailgate wiper motor and the high level brake light on my wagon.

(for those that remember my issue of how to mount the 3rd brake light on an '81 tailgate window - I ended up taking the mounts from the '86 window and epoxying them to the newly painted black surface on the glass-so far it's holding!)

wiring completed everything tests out and runs fine! yee haa! no more bulb out light flashing every time I hit the brakes. Next day I run the wiper and it's dead! Checked all my wiring - it looks right, then with the gate lifted I try the wiper again and it works great.

confused I go to close the gate (while the wiper is running mind you) and as I am lowering it it starts to fail, slows way down AND the brake light and the license plates lights come on during the wipe cycle!

check my wiring for some kind of short where the wires might be flexing - nothing wrong there - it only fails when the tailgate comes down about 4 inches and stays failing (slow with everything lighting up) into the closed position. As soon as I get it back up full open wiper works great - no lights lighting.

could I have installed the motor in the wrong position and it needs to be weighted differently in the gate to function? Am I on crack?

Confused!
