Stall when Hot/cruise control hose 1991-740/regina/non-turbo 700 1991

Hello Volvo boarders!

Well, I have had a Volvo trouble kind of week.

I'll detail....
First the in-tank fuel pump went bad...I took the fuel tank off and replaced it. This 740 has only the 1 fuel pump. It's a pretty tough job to do in a driveway. However the car ran well when completed. I took it out for a 3 hour tour to make sure it was reliable for my wife to use. It drove very well.

Then.....5 blocks from home, at a light, the engine stalled and would not restart. Towed it home with my trust little truck and found the timing belt had broke. I replaced it and the car ran great. However, on the test drive, when it reached full operating temp, it acts like it is fuel starved and will idle fine, but when the gas pedal is touched it bogs, pings and sputters and is likely to stall, it will restart with more than ususal cranking. If I let it cool down for a bit it will run like a champ....again until it reaches full temp then runs like crap and not driveable.

-I triple checked the timing bely alignment and checked the timing with a light....dead on at 12.
-I checked the fuel pump pressure with a homemade multivac gauge and it's at approx 42 lbs.
-I replaced the fuel filter just for good measure as I figured the the sediment wouold have been stirred up by the fuel tank handling and it was ready for one anyway.
-I checked OBD codes and have no fault codes. Flashes 1-1-1.
-I have ran many of the checks indicated by the manual and the FAQS on this board concerning CO sensor, idle valve, EGR valve, and AMM tho I could not find a applicable problem description.
-I tried running it without the CO sensor connected to force it into a limp mode.....symptoms are the same except it smells very rich at the tail pipe.

Has anyone experienced a failure like this and are there any suggestions for diagnosing it?

One more thing...there is a coil-like unit on the drivers side strut tower that has 3 wires attached, Orange/yellow.green/red.yellow. There is also a vacuum nipple on the bottom that is not attached to anything, when I attach a hose to it and apply vacuum the cruise control bellows operates. There is no mention of this unit or the colored wires in the Chiltons I have. Could someone trace the vacuum hose that is attched to that unit....There are two. One obviously goes to the cruise bellows, the other I cannot find an unused hose to connect to. The cruise worked before this spat of problems and I figure I messed it up inadvertantly while working on the timing belt.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Bill in Plano, Texas.
