Adding driving lights behind the grill? What have other Brickers done? 900

After pricing out e-codes, I though I should explore other options. Basically I want to increase my long range visibility for highway and back road night driving. I have upgraded the 9004 bulbs to a Sylvania Vision Plus 55/45 -- small improvement. Higher wattage bulbs are not the way to go for two reasons: the lens and refractor of the DOT lights are not good; the lense and casing are plastic.

So I started looking at Driving Lights. I am really leaning towards the Hella FF1000. But how to mount them? There certainly is enough room to mount them behind the grill and in front of the I/C and radiator in both my 745T and 944T. But what do I mount them too? The sides of this "cavity" are all plastic/vinyl to channel the air thought the cooling apparatuses.

I have noticed that there is a steel bumper underneath the plastic bumper cover. You can see the lip from the inside (behind the grill). It appears to be a "U" shaped piece of steel, about 1/8" thick. May somehow weld/attach a bar to that?

Please share any thoughts, ideas, experiences!

Thanks
Tim
