AMM testing question 900

I am once again troubleshooting intermittent rolling idle
on '91 945 turbo. Today when it was acting up I unplugged AMM
and idle smoothed out at 1200 or so, high but smooth, as soon
as I reconnected AMM engine stalled. And continued to after several rechecks.
Is this normal or should AMM be replaced. seems to me A working AMM would
not make engine stall immediately when reconnected on running engine.

Am I on the right path here?
