fuel guage 900 1993

'93 940.....fuel guage stuck on empty (pinned to post)and indicator light on intermittently. have full tank. when key is on, no response at all from needle. took cluster out & removed guage unit but 'seems' ok...any way to test this unit? looked at receiver on tank & checked for current, only got reading on 1 wire...which wire sends current to guage? -do not have wiring diagram. TIA
