I posted previously that I have replaced a couple of starters within the last year because my brick would not start (no response when you turned key) even though the battery and alternator are fine.
Now, a couple weeks after replacing the last starter, I hear a winding sound from the starter motor, but the flywheel is never engaged. It's like the starter motor is just spinning free. The whacky thing about it is that this only happens on a cold start. More specifically, this only happens in the morning after the car has been sitting overnight. I checked and made sure that the starter was installed securely, and everything seems fine.
Does anyone know what the cause could be? Could I have a worn flywheel? Does anyone know how much it costs to replace one of these? Is this a DIY kind of project?
Could my no start problems be a wire harness problem? I've also noticed that my rpm guage goes a little whacky at times (mostly when I am stopped in traffic), but has no effect on the idle or accerlation. Is this consistent with a bad harness?
Any help is appreciated before I get killed by the local Volvo dealer...
Thanks
