940 GLE 1992 50K miles
I was drivng in the car on the weekend (Canada cold) and had some heating on.
To prevent windsheild foging I put the blower vents to defrost (i.e. to blow out of the top of the dash, dial at 12 o'clock).
upon doing so I heard the compressor kick on ???
I put the dial back to 9o'clock (front vents) and the compressor turned off.
Repeated the 12 o'clock and compressor on again???
I looked at the A/C switch and it was turned off (yes I know the switch IN means A/C OFF, backwards, I've had the car for 3 years and am aware of this...).
I retested to see if the switch works, YES, it turns the A/C ON and OFF with the vent dial at 9 o'clock and others, but at 12 o'clock (top vents) the A/C is always ON...
Why is this? Is this normal?
Note I do not have automatic climat control. The dash center contains the rotary temp dial, the vent position dial, and the fan speed dial, as well as a push button for re-circ and a push button for AC ON/OFF.
Any advice?
Thanks,
