Further rear differential questions.... 700

With all this talk about rear differentials, I have a question! I have a 1989, 740 GL automatic transmission and it does not have a locking rear diff (the wheels spin in opposite directions when on the hoist). I want to convert it to a locking differential and was wondering if this is easy and which years can I use as a donor car (ie. Model,engine and transmission combos). Is there a differetial that I could use and still maintain my current gear ratio?

What is the impact of using a different ratio and how do I know what the ratio is on the donor car's diff.
