issues starting/idling 200 1989

Ok, my girlfriend's '89 240DL is having issues. In order to start it, she has to push the gas pretty hard or else it will die. It idle's bad too, and will almost stall if she doesn't keep on the gas. I'm looking at the bentley book trying to figure out the most likely causes....any ideas? I'll check the AMM, which seems to be the most likely culprit(even though it was new as of a year ago) but other than that, what should i check for? thanks yet again!
