Please help, this is driving me nuts.
I have a 86 240 with 220,000 miles and it runs great. Occasionally, and only when it has rained (but not everytime it rains) it just will not start. The starter turns the engine over, but it will not fire. If you wait for an hour and try again, starts right up.
The other day, it would not start for two days, I finally tried squirting some starting fluid in there, and started right up, end of story. The starting fluid only worked after I took off the "black tubular thing" that connects the intake manifold to the air cleaner.
Today, same problem, but it started up an hour later with no starting fluid. I would like to get to the bottom of this. The ignition wires, cap, rotor appear to be in good shape. I know if I take it to the shop, I'll hear " Its working fine, what do you want me to do", I've tried that route.
Please, I would appreciate any advice on this. Thanks.
