fault codes 311 and 312.....what to do about them? 200 1989

Ok, so I checked the diagnostics on my girlfriend's '89 240DL and I came up with 3-1-1, vehicle speed signal missing, and 3-1-2, anti-knock signal missing. What the heck do I do about it is my question? In all of my exploits on 240's, i've never dealt with these problems....what are probable causes and good things to check? thanks!
