I currently have an 86 745 with a M46, which I love, but think that it will be nearing the end within the next few years. I have been dreaming of putting this transmission into a 945 turbo. I understand that the clutch for a turbo is different from the NA. What modifications will I need to make to do this job? Also, the clutch is operated by a cable and I think that I would prefer it to be hydrolic - is this conversion easy? One more question - would I need to change the differential on the 945 (1994 or 1995)?
And yet another question: the transmission in my 745 (200K mi) feels like it has a little slop in the gears. For example, if I let the car idle in first gear in slow traffic, the car bucks a little and the buck feels like the gears are worn. I don't really mind it that much, but thinking down the road, what will this transmission feel like at 400K in the 945? Or is the wear more likely somewhere else in the drivetrain (ie the differential or universal joints). Sorry for the long winded question. I appreciate your feedback.
