Does anyone know if a face plate kit from a USA left hand drive car will also suit a right hand drive car?

I want to install my own aftermarket stereo, but here in Australia no one seems to know anything about localy sourced face plate kits, I could get a US kit, but I don't know if it would be any use to me.
Or are there any UK places that sell a face plate kit???

And has anyone got any experience with fitting the crutchfield brand or other fitting kits, I'd like to know if they are any good, or if one install kit is better than another.

I'm just dying to get a decent CD Tuner into my car.
