The crankshaft continued to rotate with the key removed (I waited and she finally broke) 200

Ive been blessed with my little project...pretty much. Never had to get her towed anywhere. But today in a freak snow storm she told me to step off. I have known for quite some time she needed a new fuel pump. In the last week or so I have had to keep my foot slightly on the accelerator to keep her from shutting off. Just when I finally committed to ordering the pump, and while I was at it a few others based on suggestions I have gotten here about the 100,000 mile mark, she died. I believe it to be the fuel pump. But since I waited so long I wonder what else it might be.

Let me give a little background. A few minutes before she died the oil light came on. Recently I replaced the main seal. I checked the oil level and it was normal. I was going to drive her home when she croaked. I pulled the key out of the ignition and the crankshaft kept turning. I had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop. Please tell me what that means in addition to my fuel pump and tune up repairs.
