'93 240 (check engine light), mpg goes way down, won't start next day

last fall had mass airflow sensor replaced, worked fine (oly 96k miles)
drove to NY, NH, coming back, "check engine", mpg down to mebbe 10,
reset ch eng, come on again after ~100 miles and only 130 miles for full tank,
stopped Youngstown OH, next am cranks but won't start
(the good news, inexpensive motel! 26.50 per!)
towed to dealer in Warren nearby, they changed plugs points distrib wires
started up ok another 100 miles, check engine and again mpg way down
made it to Indanapolis IN, motel, next am cranks but won't start
called local NAPA to suggest repair place, they laughed hahaha
found guys willing to give it a try "TUNE TEC" in Indy

say a prayer, light a candle, any advice welcome

I'm hoping it's only mass airflow relay

also what's the name of the volvo parts place which has schematics on their website?
