My 83 240's auomatic transmission has had difficulty engaging from a stop when cold(0 to -20 Celcius). I would put it into drive and then press the accelerator- then it would rev up a bit before engaging. After having been driven a couple miles the problem goes away. I flushed the tranny this fall with IPD kit. I can't remember if it's the AW or BW model, but it is a 3 speed with an overdrive.
