seat foam flaking off on carpet - any simple fixes without replacing foam? 200 1991

My seat is in pretty good shape but the foam is a little dry and flaking off and leaving little bits on the carpet around the rails. Anyone have ideas for a fix that doesn't involve foam replacement? I'm thinking about hot gluing on dust cover material like the kind under a box spring mattress to try and contain it. Bad idea?
