'86 Manual Trans/Clutch Problems? 240DL 200 1986

Today i was driving up hill, and my idle began to run very high, the car seemed to be stuck at 60 mph, and then it was only running at around 40 mph. as i began to push harder, the car gave more resistance. It finally stopped moving, however, the car is starting and running fine, but it won't drive. the wheels wont move. i can put the car in every gear and take my foot off the clutch without stalling.
please help!!!
