Larger Connecting Rod Question 700

If I understand correctly, sometime in '89 Volvo switched back to 13mm connecting rods from the decidedly weaker 9mm connecting rods.

First off, is this correct?

Secondly, is there a way to tell (via VIN # or otherwise) if a given '89 B230FT has 9mm or 13mm connecting rods?

I'm considering buying one, and would like to know what's in there.
