I'd been meaning to check the airbox t-stat once the weather warmed up. I'd looked at it last when temps were in the 30s.
Sure enough, on a 90 degree day it was still calling for heated air. There is no flex hose but air from the engine compartment, just ahead of the turbo, was being drawn into the airbox.
I drilled a small hole in the flapper and the heated air intake duct and using a zip tie clamped the flapper shut. Outside air all the time now.
I didn't expect the big difference it made in running. Amazing. The engine is much smoother and the car acellerates quicker and feels stronger through the gears. And, the hesitation is almost gone.
