The '79 244 failed to start when my daughter tried to come home from work. After a lot of messing around with fuel delivery system pressur is ok), I finally looked at the timing belt. The tensioner was shot, so I replaced it and the belt. The car would start, but run only when someone kept a foot on the accelerator (making a bap-bap-bap sound - I'm sure that's informative, right?) A re-check of the timing belt showed it's installed correctly (i re-installed it). Any suggestions?
Saturday afternoon, I was trying to get it to start and run at all and nothing happened. Since I couldn't hear either fuel pump, I bypassed the relay and could hear pumps running. The relay is only a few thousand miles old. What causes a new one to fail? I've seen posts where guys have re-soldered the relay. I took one apart yesterday (I still have the old one)and looked at it. What do you solder?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
