Overdrive effect on fuel economy 200 1982

Have other people only noticed a 1mpg difference in highway fuel economy with the overdrive compared to no overdrive (e.g. relay failed)? That's what I've seen the two times that the overdrive electricals failed. First time it was the relay, this time, it is probably the relay (jumpering the blue and yellow on the plug where the overdrive relay goes clicks on the green light).

It is annoyingly noisier on the highway without the overdrive, though.

Car: 1982 245, B21F LH-Jetronic, M46.
