Transmission THUMP 200 1979

Hi, I just bought a '79 Volvo 245dl. I am obsessed with this car that everyone thinks is junk. It runs great, has a great body. I know it had a transmission w/OD put in a year or two ago. I do get a thump that seems to come from the rear axle (maybe) after a let off the clutch in first, sometimes second to a lesser degree. Are there certin things that I should check first, that are common with the 245 that I should know about? (regarding transmission or any other aspect?) Can I add turbo? Why can't I find a 245 like mine at ANY junkyard? Any tips would be appreicated. Also, I would be happy to assist anyone seeking easy to dissassemble parts from my local pick-n-pull yard.
