Ok to drive w/ knock sensor unplugged as test? 700 1988

I'm trying to find the source of my hesitation on acceleration. The FAQ indicates a bad knock sensor could be responsible for the symtoms I'm having. Any harm in disconnecting it and driving to test? Or does the ECU need some feedback from it to operate at all?

Thanks,
