Kick down cable question: 200 1989

My gas pedal's been a little sticky lately. After I accelerate - even gently - I feel almost no resistance from the gas pedal and the car doesn't want to shift up. So I read the FAQ and read up a little on kick down cable issues - went outside and saw that there is slack in that cable. When I pull it out a bit, it just sort of sticks there and then slowly goes back in (though not all the way to the ferrule).

So, my question(s):

- With the cable disconnected, the transmission will want to stay in high, yes? Or will it simply not shift into gear at all?

- Depending on the answer to that question, is it okay to drive it with the cable disconnected for 3.4 miles or so?

Thanks, of so very much.

Flint
