940 GLE B234F 16v 1991 50K miles sedan mint.
I had the complete exhaust replaced 2.5 years ago, with an aftermarket exhaust (not sure which) with downpipe, cat, front muffler and rear muffler, all pipes etc...
I know these exhausts are not good for durability. In my Montreal weather they rust out after 3 years and need replacing but... I also had noticed that the sound was not at all as well muffled as the stock exhaust (as expected)
This spring it has developped a very loud rattle (like hitting the rear floor or under seat where the pipe goes above the rear axle. This rattle mostly occures at drive with brake applied, or a slow reverse. It is VERY ANNOYING and loud from inside and outside.
I got under the car while it was idling, no exhaust leaks. Can'e really hear any too, only the rattle.
Question: Are there hangers that might go bad? Is this common? Does the front muffler have a hanger too or only the rear?
When I take hold of the tailpipe it *hits* when I quickly pull it up.
Please, advise on how to further diagnose.
