rebuilt B18: squealing 444-544 1963

Hello all--the fresh B18 is running strong, currently has 440 miles on it. Since shortly after its resurrection, though, the engine's had a persistent squeal at startup and occasionally when starting from a long pause at idle. Squeal is constant until oil pressure has held 60psi for a few seconds. Failed bearing type of sound, or like a belt squeal, and I thought I had fixed it with a new belt, and then a new alternator...but running the engine without the belt confirms that it's not the belt, or the water pump, or the alternator.

Could be a red herring, but: I pulled the timing cover and found that the gears looked mostly dry--however the oiler seemed to be functioning (not plugged, anyway) and aimed correctly. Should the gears be thoroughly coated with oil? I would think so. Oiled them from a can and didn't hear from the squeal for awhile...may or may not be related.

Cam spacer is installed. Do these symptoms ring a bell for anyone?

All best, Nathan
