Whining drive line 200 1985

I have a 1985 Turbo Wagon (240 series, I guess), 4 speed manual with the electric 5th speed, 190k miles. I have a whine in the drive line which is getting progressively worse. It is most noticeable around 40 mph and again around 60+ mph. It is louder when accelerating and decreases sometimes and somewhat at a steady speed or when slowing.

I have already replaced the drive shaft center bearing. I suspect the differential, perhaps the pinion bearing(s), but I can't be sure - it could also be the tranny or OD....

I know this is difficult to diagnose without driving the car, but what do readers here think is the most likely culprit. And if it IS the rear end, is it better to find a different assembly? Or to try and have someone replace the bearings?

All comments, counsel, and advice appreciated.
