I have a 1996 960 Wagon. On some occaisions when I turn the steering wheel for a fairly sharp turn (especially when backing up) when the steering wheel comes back around, I hear a loud "crack" or "knock" sound. Is this an indication of failed or failing CV joint(s)? Could I possibly avoid a major (expensive) CV joint maintenance job by performing joint lubrication? If I did have to seek professional help, what cost am I looking at? I bought this car less than two years ago and I'm beginning to wonder if it was such a good idea. Thanks.
