1985 Stalling after air filter replacement 200 1985

I changed the air filter on my recently purhcased 1985 240DL this weekend (what a pain in the butt that was!), and after putting it back together, the car tends to stall once after starting. It didn't stall before at all. Once it starts again, it runs ok, if I wait for a second or two. The old filter was filthy, and I figured this would help, but I seem to have made matters worse. Any ideas what I might have done, and/or how to repair this? The car has 210,000 miles on it; no recent tuneup.
