Rear speakers don't work - help! 700 1991

I listen to more music in my car than anywhere else. So, I am distressed that the rear speakers on the 745 I just bought don't work.

What do I need to do to get them working? They are there, and rather inconsiderately riveted to the door (instead of screwed), so I can't easily check the connections, but no sound. Can anyone give me a troubleshooting guide to getting them to work? Thanks.
