Got a subjective question. I am concerned that my '87 wagon might not be running "efficiently." I recently made a run to Louisville from Tulsa for the Derby. The old girl did great except for two things that concern me. One, I had her cruise set to about 78 or 80 almost the whole way. When she would go up hills, she'd have a little trouble keeping up, sometimes even dropping as far down as 65 to 70. This isn't horrible, but is it a sign of some big intake leak, causing her to lean out or something? Secondly, she only averaged about 23 to 24 miles a gallon, is this average. I'm running a 4spd automatic which I believe to be the AW70. Just wanted opinions, what kind of performance should I expect. My other brick is an '81 with the B21F and the 3spd BW55 auto, so 75 in her is about 4600 rpm's. I'm just needing a point of reference. I, of course, gave her a tuneup before I left, but didn't include O2 sensor and only a paper (not K&N) filter. Not that I was dissatisfied, the old girl gave a quiet, smooth ride, just don't her to have to wheeze along. Thanks, keep on brickin'.
