My 1985 740 Turbo was not cooling very well and doing some odd things. It would never cycle, and as a result I believe ice was forming in the coils since water would drain for a long time after the car was parked. I changed the low pressure switch, but it had no effect. No cycling at all.
I took it to a good A/C shop, and they told me it had R-12, R-22, and R134a all mixed in. Apparently the bums at a different local garage did this to the car when my dad owned it.
Anyhow, the "good" shop wanted a resonable charge for the upgrade to r134, but they wanted to change the condenser coils from a serpentine to parallel flow one for about $200 more. From the FAQ it seems this would not be necessary.
My question is this. How benefitial is it to change to this type of condenser or is this just another way for the shop to take my money. It's really hot where I live so if it makes it work better I would like to know.
Thanks,
Randy
