1980 DL Alternator wiring help needed PLEASE! 200

ARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGG

23 years is catchin up to my car. I have wires breaking left right and center. Just 2nite a wire from the + lead of my alternator broke off...I managed to fix it by using a butt connector, but I am wondering where the heck it goes...it runs from the + of the alternator, and then into a wire shrould and goes infront of the engine block and to what i assume is the starter...anyone know? I wanna replace this wire just to make sure this doesn't happen again.
