O2 Sensor Removal 200 1987

On my 1987 240 the oxygen sensor is on the rear of the exhaust manifold. The sensor is screwed in tight up against the manifold with no room for an open end wrench. Is there a way to remove the sensor for replacement without purchasing the specialized socket? The socket in the IPD catelog is $20. which I would like NOT to spend.
All suggestions are appreciated.
