Very bad idle after Turbo+ 200 1983

I recently installed an intercooler to my 1983 240 turbo. The car ran very well for a complete round trip from Chicago to Atlanta. After returning to Chicago I had more time to add the Turbo+ system and had the biggest smile on my face at WOT. The extra boost at wide open throttle was substantial.

Now I have a most serious problem. After installing turbo+ I experienced a very rough idle. I figured a vaccuum leak or something. I then searched for leaks and found none. I sprayed carb cleaner everywhere and still found nothing.

I became very frustrated and disconnected the entire intercooler system including the turbo+ and still the same rough idle. The idle became worse over about a week of trouble shooting and now will not even idle without substantial help from the throttle.

When disconnecting the intercooler system I noticed the inside of the plumbing
directly before the throttlebody to be full of gooey gunk probably from years of oil mist that had started to break the rubber down. This gunk was very thick and lots of it.

Since I have not been able to find the vaccuum leak could this gunk have been sucked into my throttlebody and engine. If so what damage could it have done to my throttlebody or vavles.

Now the system that had put such a big smile on my face now has me stranded.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!
