Timing belt blew (Rev 2) with Photos 200 1988

All,

Thanks input and help with the timing belt problem on my 1988 240 (147k miles).

(first post is here: http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/index.htm?id=630758 )

Well, I got the car back in my garage and was able to take some pictures of the failure with the timing cover off. Looks like the tensioner failed(?) and the belt slowly started to slip off of the pullies. The belt was as found in the photos, and there was a lot of belt "fray dust" all over the place. You can also see that as the belt moved off of the pullies, it even cut the timming cover both top and bottom. Is this a common occurence?

The pictures are posted here:

So time to order parts and try to ge humpy back together again. Here's to hoping that there wasn't any collison... piston v. valve.

As problems arise, I will post with questions and photos... as I have not done a timming belt before.

Thanks,
/Kevin
