Hey all,
Phase I cam and 3-series header just arrived yesterday and pretty excited to finally get these mods installed in the next few weeks but have a couple of questions. My Volvo tech said we should possibly remove the head and send it off to a machine shop to make sure everything looks solid before installing the cam, 8 new springs, and gasket kit. There is a performance auto machine shop that specializes in engine work on the North Shore of MA relatively close to me, and was wondering whether it would be worth it ($$$ depending) to have them in addition to "checking" the head, possibly get a port and polish done as well...would it be worth the investment for the power gains or too risky?? Is sending the head out even necessary? I have a feeling that the port and polish could be very expensive and perhaps even just a "check-up" as well, but wanted to throw out these questions and see what you have to say before proceeding. Oh, one more thing...what would be some of the positives of doing a port and polish?
Thanks so much!
