Will a Saginaw rebuild cure the reservoir leak? 200 1979

Hello Bricksters,

PS fluid weeps out of the filler neck on this old integral tank Saginaw steering pump, mostly after sustained high rpm driving. It is not a large leak, just a wetness that needs to be wiped off every time I fuel up.

I looked over Herb Goltz's notes on rebuilding the Saginaw 700-900 FAQS but I could not determine what sort of leak he had.

The neck and cap sealing surfaces look perfect, the locking tab spring is functional and the gasket is supple and smooth. But there is a vent path around the seal that looks purposeful to me.

Is this messiness caused by something that might be cured by rebuilding the pump? I've never had one of these apart before.

Thank you for reading,
