Air flow misdirected??? 700 1985

Last year a mechanic? replaced the evaporator in my car-Afterwards, the air flow would slow to a halt when I was accelerating. Now, I notice that the cooled air comes out through the windshield defogger. Would any of you guys know where I should investigate???
