Bought a Volvo 900 1993

Hello All. I just bought a 1993 D6 940 GL Turbo Diesel. The car is in great shape, but for a straight 6 turbo runs oddly slow I mean really slow!! Like I floor the gas and it creeps. Does anybody know what the problem might be? I think the turbo might be shot. I dont here it spool when im driving. If the turbo doesnt spin can that hinder performance? Also the exhaust changes color to really dark during shifts. The engine only has about 112,000 miles on it. Also if anybody could tell me the horse power rating of this car that would be great too. thanks a bunch in advance
