Tachometer wiring 1800 1962

Howdy--

My tachometer looks as though it's been disconnected when a silly ignition booster was put in. I bypassed that, but I'd like to know how to hook up the tach. What do I wire it to? Also, there was a capacitor or something in between the two posts on the gauge--- what is this?
