Howdy from big D all,
Just bought my first turbobrick - 1991 745. Purchased from original owner, who took deliver in Europe and kept it serviced. Leather and the sunroof and 138k on the clock. This is my third Volvo (owned a 1990 244 and a manual trans 88 245 before this one that leaked oil like the Valdez when I switched to synthetic). Love the rush of boost and the comfortable seats.
Have some upkeep work to do on this one.
The power is good, but when I stomp the throttle, once the tach zooms past 4500 rpm, the car starts bucking and losing power really badly. If I back totally out of the throttle, it goes back to normal, if I back half way out, I can make it keep bucking. If I sneak past 4500 rpm at half throttle, the car will go to redline without a problem.
Also, hard start in the morning if I park it facing uphill, no problems if I face it downhill.
I am a tuner by nature and profession (Oracle database tuner.) Looking to go to 300hp with this car, so if it be a fuel pump, reccomend one that will support this level of power, if you can.
I know, thousands of dollars worth of turbos, exhaust, fuel upgrades, head work, gauges, etc. And the ability to kill musclecars with a gold station wagon. Hmmmmm.......
Thanks very much,
Jack Silvey
