700 hesitation when accelerating 700

I have a 1990 740 16V. When I accelerate the car hesitates and sometimes almost stalls. This problem never happens except when accelerating from a dead stop. Someone on Brickboard suggested I try and clean out my trottle body as that corrected a similar problem in his 740 8V. I did this, but have seen no change. Any suggestions?
