Rear Main Engine Seal Leaks 200 1987

I just learned that my '87 240 has a Rear Main Engine Seal that needs to be replaced. It's causing oil to leak at a slow rate (just a few drops overnight). How soon do I need to fix it, or does it need to be fixed as long as I make sure the oil level is proper? Thanks.
