Tranny replace 200 1983

I bought a spare manual tranny for my Volvo. It turns out to be the 76-78 manual transmission, not the 79-85 I need.

Someone online told me I could still install the 76-78 tranny in my '83 if I use a "different clutch".

Has anyone ever heard of this?
