M41 OD Solenoid Wiring 1800 1966

I have 2 M41 gearboxes, one early and one later. The early one has only one wire going to the OD solenoid, works perfectly. The later box has two connections on the OD solenoid. Can I assume the other connection is ground? Thanks in advance for your replies.
