My wifes'd 97' 960 wagon has an annoying (slight) vibration at idle regardless of whether in gear, park, or neutral. As soon as RPM's go above 1000 the vibration goes away and the car returns to a silky smooth ride. The wagon has 78,000 miles on it and although slight, I hate the vibration. Based on previous posts I have developed a list of about a half dozen potential causes for rough idle only in park, neutral or at a stop light in gear.
These include:
Bad motor mounts, faulty plugs/wires, faulty ignition coil, faulty idle air control valve, intake manifold leak, or a vaccum leak. Wow! I am a "backyard" guy and do many maintanance repairs myself but feel a little overwhelmed here. The idle vibration sounds like a common problem with a lot of possible causes. Any suggestions to further refine the vibration at idle based on these options?
ALSO...... Thinking back, the first time I ever noticed the vibration was right after (driving the car away) we had our radiator replaced. Could this possibly be related?
Thanks Again!
