'81 242 Mysteriously Dies 200

On the freeway my '81 242 suddenly began to chug as though it was running out of gas. During these 'chugs,' pressing the gas pedal had no effect. I pulled over and the car began to chug more and eventually died. I was able to restart it once, but after that nothing.

The engine turns over promptly, and no warning lights came on when the engine began to have problems. The fuel pump still makes the priming noise when i turn the key to "II." My top suspect is the fuel filter, but does anyone have any other ideas? (the gas tank IS completely full :)

Yhanks,

Adam
